THE PEOPLE IN THE LIFE AND TIMES OF LACHLAN AND ELIZABETH MACQUARIE

Hawkesbury Pioneers

The following pioneers signed an Address which was presented to Govenor Macquarie by Thomas Arndell on the 1st December 1810. These pioneers refered to themselves as settlers, residents of the Hawkesbury and its vicinity and congratulated the Governor on his arrival to their settlement. They also took the opportunity to thank Macquarie for the appointment of William Cox as a magistrate. Govenor Macquarie replied to Thomas
Arndell and the settlers that he was pleased with the sentiments expressed in the address and that his greatest interest was to promote their prosperity.  With this in mind he had fixed on the ground the location of four different townships for the accommodation of the settlers who have suffered so severely by the floods of the river.
