Hugh O’Donnell

Born: c.1769 at Sligo, Co. Sligo, Ireland.
Arrived Sydney:  27th February 1810.
Vessel: Anne II.
Status: Soldier 73rd Regiment.
Married: Mary Lakeman in c.1798 at Plymouth, Devon, England.
Died: 28th May 1834.
Buried: cMay 1834 at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, North Parramatta, N.S.W., Australia

Prior to the Macquarie era, the following children were born to Hugh and Mary:-
John born c.1799.
Thomas born c.1806.
Frederick Hugh born c.1808.

During the Macquarie era, the following children were born to Hugh and Mary:-
Mary born 2nd September 1810.
Elizabeth Margaret Born 29th November 29th November 18
Hannah born 11th October 1814.
Elizabeth born 28th January 1817.
Anne Sophia (Nancy) born 21st March 1819.
Eleanor born 25th May 1821 at Parramatta and died on the 1st April 1822 at Parramatta, N.S.W.

After the Macquarie era, the following child was born to Hugh and Mary:-
Eleanor (Ellen) born 22nd April 1822 at Parramatta.


Hugh O’Donnell became a soldier as an adult, about the turn of the century. 1798 found him in Plymouth where he married Mary Lakeman. Having been transferred from the 18th Garrison of the 102nd Regiment to the 73rd Foot, 1st Bn, he sailed on the Anne II with the 73rd Regiment as an escort for convicts to N.S.W. His wife Mary and sons John, Thomas and Frederick travelled with him. Hugh’s army records show him to be 5’9” tall with dark brown hair, grey eyes and a fair complexion.
