James is listed in the 1828 N.S.W. Census as living on a 201 acre property at Lower Portland Head with his 46 year old wife Mary and their four children, James, Joseph, Henry and John. Hi property contained 60 cleared and cultivated acres , 3 horses and  50 cattle.
