Before the Macquarie era Mary was born in the colony – no baptism found.

The 1822 Muster lists Mary as being born in the colony, the 15 year old wife of J Mein of Windsor, N.S.W.

She is recorded in 1823,24,25 Muster as being 17 years of age and employed by Mr Muir at Wilberforce, N.S.W.

In the 1828 Census Mary is listed as Mary Johnson, 20 years of age, a Protestant, living in Clarence Street, Sydney with Alexander
